Unfoldment of the Great Within Finding your Inner Voice
Most people tend to define a conscience as that little voice inside your head that helps you
define and distinguish wrong from right, and to abide by the moral ethics that you were
brought up in. Other people call it their “guardian angel”; some women believe it to be their
intuition. When you sometimes feel that you are uncertain of the role you play, or of the
meaning of your existence, or your need to search for an identity you can call your own,
something inside you speaks up and guides you through these problems. This “inner voice”
though, is actually a method by which your subconscious guides you through difficult decisions
that you may have to make in the course of your life.
Having an “inner voice” doesn’t have any supernatural origins; it is simply your subconscious
informing your conscious self about certain actions it feels that you should take, often through
feelings or inclinations that you may get. Some people may have an easier time finding and
associating with their inner voices, while others may not. There are certain guides in places
that aid in helping everyone finds their inner voices to guide them through.
Firstly, it is important to get into tune with your body and understand its reflexes and
reactions to the environment if you feel yourself trembling in the absence of cold, or when
your chest tightens up, your body is telling you that you are afraid. Feeling queasy despite not
having had anything to upset your stomach indicates that you are worried or nervous over
something. If your hands feel clammy, or if you are sweating for no reason, then it could
mean that you are about to do something you personally disapprove of. By listening to these
signals that your body is sending, you are able to interpret the course of action that your
subconscious is trying to tell you.
Also, many people tend to take the logical approach and use their heads instead of going by
their instincts. In the same way, other people can tend to get too emotional, and instead focus
on what their heart dictates, rather than doing something rational. It is necessary to use both
the heart and the mind when weighing out options to get a balanced view of the best course of
action you should take. Understanding both the logic and sentiments that come with a
particular situation allows your inner voice to formalize clearer decisions to aid you in making
a choice.
In addition to this inner voice, an anti-inner voice may also exist in your head. This is the
voice that insists you are too weak or too inexperienced to accomplish something, or that you
do not have the courage to undertake a difficult task and see it through. By recognizing this
anti-inner voice, you are able to differentiate the ones that try to guide your actions in
contrast to the ones that criticize and obstruct your path even before you have made a choice.
Finally, there is also a certain set of preconceived ideas that people tend to maintain based on
past experiences or previous consequences of an action they have made. Having bad dealings
with a person may cause some bias in dealing with him the next time around, or failing a
difficult class might decrease your hopes of passing a second time. These ideas tend to
convince people to choose a certain course of action, instead of allowing them to be more
open to other ideas and alternatives. By identifying these limiting ideas, we are also able to
consciously reject them when a decision has to be made, allowing for your inner voice ample
opportunity to help you do what is right based on what you feel is right, rather than what you
believe is right.
