Limitation and Self Control
My dog died this morning, my husband lost his job and my car won’t start. Just when I thought
things couldn’t get any worse, my kid was suspended from school. The day seems to never
end. Always another day, but it is full of problems.
Do you have self-control? Do you know your limitations?
Each day an entity awakens, rarely do they expect the worst to happen. Often these people
wake up with the same game plan every morning. When something does happen…how do
these people handle the problem.
When you know your limitations, it prepares you for the worst situations. Despite the day
seems bad you will see through this barrier and work through it with a positive mindset. We
all face unforeseen occurrences. Sometimes the occurrences take place in large numbers in a
day and sometimes the barriers are minor. The solution to overcoming barriers that gets in
our way however is to take control of the situations now, instead of repressing or rejecting the
problems.
We see in the story above that in the first situation no one has any control of what occurred.
Learning to accept that some things we do not have the power to change is the key to
overcoming depressive situations. In the second instance, we see that power is still in these
peoples’ hands. This is because other job opportunities are available and it takes this person
to venture out into the world to discover a new change that will improve his and his family’s
overall life. Better jobs are always available, yet one must exert self and develop the
willpower to maintain control to take action.
The car not starting is a minor situation and even if it is not, there is always recourse of action
that one can take to correct the problem. Thus, self-control gives us the willpower to take
control of any situation and think clearly to work through the problems.
The kids suspended from school are another minor issue. We can overcome this problem
swiftly by addressing the issue. Notice the attitude that follows the situation. In this instance,
the person thinks negative thoughts, the day seems to never end and each day seems full of
problems. If we think along these lines, it makes it harder to maintain control when control is
needed.
We then must think positive despite what situation we confront. Knowing your limitations is
important. When you set boundaries for self, it makes it easier for you to move through
situations and occurrences. For the most part, we want to keep in mind that despite we all go
through hard times, thus someone else in the world is going through a lot more than you are.
Keeping limits set will assist you with cultivating and maintaining self-control. Each day you
can create a checklist to monitor your self-disciplinary actions. Balance is the key to setting
positive limitations on self. Thus, work toward moderation by restricted self, while regulating
your thoughts and actions.
People without limitations are often those with unlimited freewill. Thus, we need to establish a
balance. For this reason, to cultivate self-control one must develop whole self and self-
awareness. When you become aware of self, you have the power within to take control of
your life despite what problems you face.
Developing self-awareness gives you the power to analyze the inner self successfully and
become conscious of his or her emotions. The law of nature says we all must become
responsive and listen in order to take full control of our thoughts and actions.
NOTE: The inner self, makes up our spirit, soul, life-force and essence – Develop these parts
to cultivate self-control.
