Self-control is not the first step in self-development, rather it is a division that must be
separated by other qualities one must develop to achieve self-control. Self-control gives us
the ability to strengthen self by curbing our desire to do what is bad.

Self-development has roots that rest in one’s strong will power and discipline. Self-control
increases confidence so that one can manage through the most difficult situations. Self-control
enables one to devise a plan that drives them to perseverance, enabling one to accomplish
his goals. Motivation is necessary to have self-control, which empowers one to accept
challenges more readily.

Importantly, we need balance effectively to utilize self-control in all areas of life. One of the
biggest steps one must take in developing self-control is to learn to relax the body and mind
often. Relaxation is almost impossible to obtain, simply because we live in a high-demanding
world full of competitors. Still, to develop self-control, we must learn to relax.

One can practice relaxation strategies. Physical and mental exercise, yoga, meditation, and
listening to music, etc, are great natural solutions to assist with relaxation. These natural
practices will boost your energy level whilst teaching you how to relax.

Self-awareness ultimately is the first move you will need to make, i.e. develop self-awareness
to cultivate self-control. When you are aware, it helps you to keep an open mind when
situations arise. Self-analyzing is a great technique one can use to build self-awareness.
Meditation is an awesome technique also, or you can try yoga.

Self-awareness guides you to self-analyze and discover your traits, personality and to decide
which areas you want to work on. You will discover your weaknesses and strengths by self-
analyzing to build awareness.

One must learn to resist temptations in relation to his disadvantages by learning his strengths
and limitations. Per se, if you have a weak area whereas it pushes you to binge eat, then self-
analyze you, become aware of the flaw, move to accept that you have a problem and then
work toward healing this aspect of you.  

Self-control is one’s compliance to refuse his own temptations. Developing your strengths and
willpower will make it easier for you to reject temptations that lead to problems. Willpower
then is essential for cultivating self-control.

Willpower will assist you with making serious decision to complete an assignment. We all have
the tendency or ability to decide which direction we want to go.  Because of imperfection
however, our lethargy or desires do not always work in harmony.

Exercise for example is one of the hardest tasks for most people to start and continue. This is
because of laziness or lethargy traits of the human makeup. Yet, if one was to exercise and
continue working out, this person could cultivate strength of mind and strength of physiology
that would reduce aging, and illnesses. Despite the common human is aware of these healthy
practices and the good results that come from it, imperfection kicks in and robs them of living
a longer, healthier life.

We must fight through these imperfections to cultivate self-control. Developing willpower once
more is the key to cultivating self-control, because when you have willpower you will give up
your comfort when necessary and put into action the plans that lead you to your goals.

Self-discipline then is needed to establish self-will and self-control. These traits all interlink
and play separate roles in self-development and cultivating self-control, yet once established
self-discipline works in harmony with other characteristics that give you power of mind.
Because we all combat with our emotions and feelings however, we must learn to understand
the emotions to accept self-control.
