Self Control through mental training
Just how Romeo and Juliet intensely showed their love for each other even through the face of
death? You heard it aloud how emotion conquers all despite the fact that the mind is higher
that the heart in the physical position that is. But heart is the center of the body and the mind
may be the control of the central nervous system but these two are actually aligned to each
other. That’s how unity works even to the tip of your pinky to your temple.
The mind plays a big part in unifying the body’s functions. Imagine if your mind looses its
control on your body, you would not want to know the result. That is how critical mental
training is. To be able to regulate and train your mental power and take hold of your self-
control, it is important that you fairly understand how self-control works best for you.
It’s very basic for an individual to direct his or her own paths not wanting to be disturbed.
Who would want to be criticized for your own actions? Many however enjoy taking for granted
the efforts of others and at times, this creates tensions in a relationship. If you received
unwanted criticism, do you easily let go of that negative emotion and confront the other
person?
Before you release that negative emotion through sharp words and odd tone of voice, focus
your mind on the result. How do you see yourself raising your voice and acting strangely in
the presence of the crowds? Are you most willing to yank the other person and embarrass
him or her in the crowd? “It’s the best thing for him/her,” you can say that. It’s true that you
need to unleash your tension and it’s your right as an individual who was deeply hurt by
unnecessary criticisms. But then again, visualize the reverse situation.
Picture yourself as the person being scolded like a child in front of the surprised crowd.
Surely, it’s an experience you never want to experience or experience again. Also, looking at
the other side of the coin would help you further deal with your emotions. Imagine when you
throw those punching words to the person; will it do you no harm? How’s the relationship
afterwards? And fervently, how’s your reputation in front of the crowds? Oh now, it would not
be the best idea to ruin everything with a single criticism, is it?
Train yourself in controlling your emotions through mental regulation. This is not that hard at
all actually. You may think it is but mental regulation requires discipline and hitting your goal
in a timetable you can create for yourself. Remember that taking self-control seriously is a
personal achievement not everybody could have. While some of the movies you watched
encourage you to speak your heart out, self-control will hold your tongue to valuable words
that you can spoke of according to the given situation appropriately.
Care to ask why many youths join some organizations, fraternities/sororities and the like.
Even elderly people love to associate because association enhances your personality and self-
control. This is a measurable aspect of your life so why not take advantage of being
acquainted with good people who have more to offer to your personal improvement instead of
criticizing them all the way. Unless you can control your emotions and know how to deal with
people effectively, you can never win friends and acquaintances. For this reason, regulating
your emotions and taking self-control seriously will result to better relationships. You will then
realize that heart and mind are actually in unity, that there is no need to be emotional most of
the time because reasons and emotions go hand in hand.
Once you have developed self-control, you are now well on your way to living a healthy
productive lifestyle.
