Self control tactics for a better self
For centuries, our great religious leaders have preached the importance of self-control and
taught various self-control tactics. People in ancient times had incorporated these tactics in
their lives on a daily basis for healthy living. In fact, the experiences of these self-control
tactics were so beneficial that they have been jotted down in religious books of all great
civilizations. But with the passage of time and introduction of hectic professional lives, people
forgot about these easy and efficient methods of living. Now with an increase in various health
problems, these techniques have been invoked again. Their advantages are being recognized
and being once again incorporated in daily routines for a stress-free life style.
One of the most emphasized self-control tactics is time management. It has its importance at
every stage of life and in every field of work. In fact, it is considered extremely important for
children for an overall healthy physical and mental development. It has been found effective
at office and home. It is necessary so that we can take out time for every thing or person that
is important for us, even our own selves.
At office, the workload is so much that people face difficulty in meeting their everyday
targets, thus leading to tension. The same situation can occur at home also where it becomes
difficult for housewives to take out any time for themselves and thus suffer from problems
due to lack of rest. All these problems can be easily tackled with proper time management.
Each work completed in specific time duration will mean that you can complete your targets
easily and thus have some fun and entertainment. Your mind and body will be at rest. So,
every time to pick up a task set a time limit for completing that task. But make sure that you
do not set an unrealizable time limit that is a duration within which you can ‘never’ complete
your work. This will only increase your stress level and you may end up spoiling everything!
Another self-control tactic is anger management that has become necessary in this violence
driven world. Anger management has been always associated with saints. But in fact it is
important for all, the whole world, to lead a peaceful life with no World Wars and blood shed
of humanity. Even if we concentrate on a small unit like family, members cannot grow in a
positive manner and develop a healthy successful life style if they are forever arguing and
fighting. This does not mean that arguments and debates should not take place at all.
They are important because it is only through these debates that you can know your faults or
drawbacks and know the ways in which they can be tackled. They are the key to
improvement; so do not change them into destructive weapons. Arguments should take place
up to a certain extent only that is to the extent of making one another realize their mistakes
so that they can be improved upon. Also, make sure that you argue with the person who has
done the mistake and not get angry on others. This will further aggravate the problem
because then people will blame you for being short tempered!
You will only end up straining your relations and damaging them permanently. This is a
common problem with employees who feel they have been unnecessarily scolded by their
employer. They cannot act against their boss and so feel frustrated at even the smallest and
silliest mistake of a colleague or their own children.
What is needed is a talk with your boss and sort out the problem or misunderstanding at a
personal level in a polite and friendly manner. In fact, the boss may just like it. Therefore,
next time before getting angry, put you in other person’s shoes and try to understand
him/her. Your anger will burst like a bubble!
These techniques incorporated with meditation, exercises, diet control and gain of knowledge
can do wonders towards a better and self-controlled life! So, try it and feel a positive
difference!
