Defining Positive Self-development for Sport, and Life
What is self-development? Why do I need it?
Answering the above questions will help you change any self-destructive habits. Self-
development is the process of improving your mind and body to lead a healthy and stress-
free life. It means taking responsibility for your self and working consciously to improve you
and thereby your life.
There are four defining principles that lead to success of self-developmental endeavors.
Truthfulness is one of them. It is crucial to take the blinders off and see who you really are,
why you do the things that you do, and what is really happening in your life and how do you
want to be in future. Admit your weaknesses and do whatever is needed to change them.
Analyzing and understanding your reactions and behavior to past experiences and to events
that happen around you over which you have no control can do this. They will help you to
peek into your inner-mind to know you better.
The other three principles are responsibility, commitment and inner strength. Taking
responsibility means that you stop being a victim and laying the blame for the things you don’t
like about your life on someone or something else. Instead, accept your problems and stand
up for what you believe is right. Do what your mind says and stop worrying about what others
will think of you. Don’t let others have any kind of negative influence on you. Life isn’t free of
challenges and adversities, and maybe you have had more than your fair share; but how you
react to events is within your control. Taking responsibility means being willing to take the
reins of change. It is only going to happen if you make it happen.
There are probably many things that you are committed to in life: your friends, your family,
and your job. Now is the time to commit to your self. Take your commitment seriously and
don’t let your self down.
In order to face the challenges that lie ahead of you require inner strength. People who
employ that strength don’t go out into the world thinking that everything is easy. On the
contrary, they acknowledge that they are going to face some difficulties and they prepare
themselves mentally to face it. This will help you get through difficult times.
Practicing the principles of honesty, responsibility, commitment, and inner strength are going
to help you with every aspect of your life. Sports will help you to acquire and refine these
qualities. It will also help you to be emotionally and mentally strong. You will not be bogged
down by failures in life. You will learn it to take it in your stride.
Sports are an important part of self-development. It gives you the physical, mental and
emotional strength to take on the world. It will give you the confidence to be who you are and
what you want to be. Winning will give you a sense of achievement and a faith in yourself to
do accomplish your dreams. The physical conditioning is taken care of by a healthy diet,
strength-training exercises, aerobics and yoga. Aerobic exercise promotes the production of
enzymes that boost oxygen consumption and therefore the burning of calories while strength
training is the activity that will help you to build muscle. A mix of the two is required for a
healthy body. Yoga and mediation gives us the much-needed calmness to soothe your mind
and to relieve all your stress and anxiety.
Thus, sports will help you to achieve self-development by toning your mind and body. It will
give you the inner strength and belief to lead a positive and stress-free life. Practice safe
